Weekly Reflection of Teaching Practise - Week 9 (January 16- January 19 2024)


 This was a very quite week for us. I was already very busy finishing up my portion of history before I leave for my college. Due to my health issues I wasn't able to take much classes this week to I made sure to take at least one class per day.

Students were very cooperative but recently it has been noted that they are taking more freedom with us. For some of us managing the classrooms are quite a job right now. Some days some students of my classroom are also behaving extremely different from how they were during the beginning. The headmistress says this is a common phenomenon scene during the teaching training last days at school. Students get acquainted with the drainage and have quite very good knowledge of how far the trainee will go. They also know that the drainage do not have much power compared to the that of a regular teacher and they take more freedom resulting in difficulties of managing them. For some fortunate safe with me this scenario is at low levels come back to others. I suppose this is because of the good rapport I  have already established with my students and also because of their attitude towards my physical health.

19th of January Friday while I was back from my class after the hour, lega teacher came for observation and ask to arrange a class for them. Actually another teacher cooperated and I was able to get a period during The fourth hour at my classroom. I took my last portion on history chapter which I was actually planning to take on Monday.

Teacher said I have improved quite well on my voice modulation part, but I made a mistake in the name of a book that I quoted in the classroom. The Hindi sir who arranged the class for me during The fourth hour also sat to watch how I was handling the classroom and he looks quite impressed from the output. Even though he didn't gave any comments I could see him smiling trying to encourage me. I send folk songs coated many books showed many books and used charts extensively as teaching aids during the class.


The week was physically exhausting for me as my health keeps deteriorating, but still I am happy with how the enter days went and that I have only one portion left with two weeks to complete ahead of me.

  The phase 1 of teaching practice started on November 6 2023. Me  and 9 other of my classmates are assigned to BNV Boys HS Section, Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram. I have already collected the portions by previous month. I am expected to teach class 9 C in Malayalam medium for the subject social science. Since this was the first week I am still getting acquainted with the class, students, teachers, and official settings of a school. It's your essay very good opportunity and being a boy school, I expect a little bit of challenge in managing discipline of the class. My class has 20 boys who come from various backgrounds. It is unfortunate that most of the students doesn't know how to write or read Malayalam properly, even though they are studying in 9th standard. "പൊലിക പൊലിക" - Digital Album on Performing arts (Theyyam)

As part of the third semester school based works of B.Ed curriculum prescribed by the University of Kerala, the teacher trainings are expected to create a digital album, based on any performing arts. I selected 'Theyyam'. Theyyam is a revered ritualistic dance form practiced in the states of Kerala and Karnataka, steeped in ancient traditions and customs dating back thousands of years. Regarded as a sacred channel to the divine, Theyyam holds immense significance for the local communities, who seek blessings and guidance through its performances. Each Theyyam represents a deity or divine being, often embodying the virtues of heroism or virtuous living. Many Theyyams are believed to be manifestations of Hindu deities like Shiva or Shakti, contributing to their religious importance. "വൈവിധ്യത്തിലെ ഏകത്വം" - Song Composition Work

As per the B.Ed curriculum prescribed by University of Kerala for Semester III, a song composition work has to be done by the teacher trainee, in connection with any of the topic handled in classroom during the training phase. During the first phase of my B.Ed teaching practice, I was posted for training at BNV V&HSS for Boys, Thiruvallam. The allotted class was IXth standard. I handled a chapter named- കേരളം: 8ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു മുതൽ 18ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു വരെ - which basically talks about the cultural, geographical, political, social, land related and economic aspects of Kerala during the mid century of 8-18th CE. This is a poem I composed on the same theme, en capsuling the essence of the chapter, and used during the end of the lesson- as a sumup of why the chapter is important. Since my lesson plans were in malayalam and I handled the malayalam medium students, the poem was also written in malayalam.
