Weekly Reflection of Teaching Practise - Week 4 (June 24- June 28 2024)

 

The week 4 of teaching practice phase 2 started with an observation from Rekha teacher. Teacher was concerned about me not getting enough classes and as I already discussed this with the concerned teacher, I was alloted the IT periods, on a condition that some hours might be handled by the sir himself. The class wasn't up to my expectations as my time management failed. I was more concerned about the small content I was managing, but ended up taking up a lot of time, which made me not getting time for review questions and consolidation. 

On Tuesday, there was a KSU strike, but the students were mostly present, which gave me two periods and I could take proper lessons. I could take classes on the Harappan civilisation today. Also, there was a note book distribution by the Peroorkada Service Cooperative Bank in the school. 




On Wednesday(26/6), there was an SPC cadet's special assembly on Drug abuse day. Elaborate assembly programs were conducted which also included dance, songs and presentations by the students. But due to this class, my first hour went in vain and I wasn't able to take class. I was supposed to put my achievement test today. Luckily I got two extra substitution periods, on which I took one for the achievement test and another one for taking my lesson plan - about the belief system and fall of Harappan civilization.


Usually I don't have class on Thursdays. So I wasn't prepared for that as well. But on this Thursday (27/6) Aswathy teacher came for general observation and I offered to take a class adjusting hours with Gopika, which will make it easy for the teacher to observe all the classes. I took my 13th LP, about Egyptian civilisation today. Even though I didn't have the class, luckily I did keep some aid at school,which came in handy. Teacher marked very good, but I was asked to concentrate more on class management, which I also felt right. 

Friday(28/6) was my yaay day. We came to know that this saturday will be a holiday, which filled me with immense joy. For the same reason, I was very happy to take the classes. I could finish my chapter, by taking two classes (one IT substitution and one social science period). Thus, my second chapter also have came to an end. But since there was so many absentees during the week, due to heavy rains and widespread fever, I might have to take up this portion one again for revision.





The students are expressing huge love and happiness to me in and outside the classroom. I did feel the warmth at first but now it really does look a little far fetched and as if they are taking a little advantage by showing discipline issues. I am a little concerned if this might prove to be my inefficiency in handling classrooms. I am planning to be more strict from the upcoming week.

  The phase 1 of teaching practice started on November 6 2023. Me  and 9 other of my classmates are assigned to BNV Boys HS Section, Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram. I have already collected the portions by previous month. I am expected to teach class 9 C in Malayalam medium for the subject social science. Since this was the first week I am still getting acquainted with the class, students, teachers, and official settings of a school. It's your essay very good opportunity and being a boy school, I expect a little bit of challenge in managing discipline of the class. My class has 20 boys who come from various backgrounds. It is unfortunate that most of the students doesn't know how to write or read Malayalam properly, even though they are studying in 9th standard. "പൊലിക പൊലിക" - Digital Album on Performing arts (Theyyam)

As part of the third semester school based works of B.Ed curriculum prescribed by the University of Kerala, the teacher trainings are expected to create a digital album, based on any performing arts. I selected 'Theyyam'. Theyyam is a revered ritualistic dance form practiced in the states of Kerala and Karnataka, steeped in ancient traditions and customs dating back thousands of years. Regarded as a sacred channel to the divine, Theyyam holds immense significance for the local communities, who seek blessings and guidance through its performances. Each Theyyam represents a deity or divine being, often embodying the virtues of heroism or virtuous living. Many Theyyams are believed to be manifestations of Hindu deities like Shiva or Shakti, contributing to their religious importance. "വൈവിധ്യത്തിലെ ഏകത്വം" - Song Composition Work

As per the B.Ed curriculum prescribed by University of Kerala for Semester III, a song composition work has to be done by the teacher trainee, in connection with any of the topic handled in classroom during the training phase. During the first phase of my B.Ed teaching practice, I was posted for training at BNV V&HSS for Boys, Thiruvallam. The allotted class was IXth standard. I handled a chapter named- കേരളം: 8ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു മുതൽ 18ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു വരെ - which basically talks about the cultural, geographical, political, social, land related and economic aspects of Kerala during the mid century of 8-18th CE. This is a poem I composed on the same theme, en capsuling the essence of the chapter, and used during the end of the lesson- as a sumup of why the chapter is important. Since my lesson plans were in malayalam and I handled the malayalam medium students, the poem was also written in malayalam.
