Weekly Reflection of Teaching Practise - Week 3 (June 18- June 22 2024)

This week we got another 5 day school week eventhough the first day of the week was a holiday. Monday was a holiday due to Eid celebrations. But Saturday was a working day as per the recent government order of 220 working days. The heavy rains are accompanying the days which is affecting the class attendance, making it hard to take Lesson plans properly.

This week, the school functioning has become more clear to me. I find this school extremely innovative and thriving. Assemblies are conducted on all special days. This week, assembly was conducted on the occassion of Reading day, and for Yoga day (June 21). Also, on every day noon 1pm, the school conducts a special assembly session where some kind of recreational and productive program for the children is conducted. This week, speeches, poster making competition, drawing competition, etc were conducted.

I got only 2 classes this week, which is very concerning. Since my classes are on first period, which gets easily affected by the morning assemblies, rain or any kind of extra curricular activities. I have asked for IT periods as well from the sir, which I can use for finishing my lesson plans. Since most days the class strength is lesser than 50%, I am having to give notes or do impromptu quizzes. If the situation isnt improving my next week, I have planned to go forth with teaching even if the attendance is low.

I was already continuing with my history portion when the previous week ended. This week I started with the same history chapter, The River Valley Civilizations. The Harappan civilization is a tough chapter to catch on and considered a little boring due to the vague nature in which everything is sorted. I have tried my best to make it interesting and students have given positive feedbacks, which made me happy.

I used a few aids like the Harappan city model and parts of the city, language, and lots of images to convey the chapter and make it as interesting as possible.

The students looked interested to know more about historical content which made me happy, and confident on the way I am handling classes.

I am understanding that the students are also interested in knowing more about historical events and stories of the world which is a good sign for any social science teacher since that creates and interest in the student.
