Weekly Reflection of Teaching Practise - Week 6 (July 08- July 12 2024 )

This week came out to be a calm one, with myself settling more into the school academic structure. I realise now that this time I am more interested in the school functioning, and have been given a better opportunity to learn, than the previous teaching practice. I also feel like my personal attitude and interest towards the school functioning and activities have increased. I am also able to understand the students better and bring them into the way I want them to be in the classroom structure. I am able to manage class better, regarding classroom management, at the same time maintain a healthy relationship with the students. Rekha teacher came for the third observation also, which was quiet a surprise, on a Wednesday, when we least expected her.





On monday, I dint had a class due to class adjustment. We had a SS club meeting, which made me know better about the club functionings and other activities.



On Tuesday, I conducted the diagnostic test on the content students found difficult,from the achievement test result. The result was quiet satisfactory, and remedial teaching was also done on the same day. The practises, auditions and preparations for the world population day special assembly by the ss club, in association with the teacher trainees was also going on.


On Wednesday, Sri. Biju Ramesh, business person, Dr. Mahesh Krishnan, principal of Rajadhani College of Hotel management,and Mr. Pradeep, circulation manager of Kerala kaumudi visited the school, donating newspaper to the school. On the occassion, Mr. Biju Ramesh also talked about various career opportunities associated with engineering, and sponsored three students for free education at his college- Rajadhani College of Engineering. I felt like he did belittle other career options, and there is a need to revisit his speech on the classroom. Various prizes of various competitions were also distributed on the day.







On Thursday, (11 July) , special assembly was conducted by us, in association with the school social science club. Many cultural programs like song, dance skit, and infotainment programs like quiz, speech etc was conducted. The program was entirely prepared by the teacher trainees, which gave us a lot of opportunities to learn about program conductions. It truly was a learning curve amount managing students, preparing programs and conducting an event. So far, this has been one of the most important lessons I have learnt from this teaching practise session. 



On the last day of the week, Friday, the 12th of July 2024, the day went pleasant and calm. I had one period to take, which went very peaceful and effective. I also had note corrections to do. I could take some revision classes for a few students. The maths club conducted a quiz competition. The teacher trainees had a collective lunch, where we bought chicken biriyani for all and had them together.

  The phase 1 of teaching practice started on November 6 2023. Me  and 9 other of my classmates are assigned to BNV Boys HS Section, Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram. I have already collected the portions by previous month. I am expected to teach class 9 C in Malayalam medium for the subject social science. Since this was the first week I am still getting acquainted with the class, students, teachers, and official settings of a school. It's your essay very good opportunity and being a boy school, I expect a little bit of challenge in managing discipline of the class. My class has 20 boys who come from various backgrounds. It is unfortunate that most of the students doesn't know how to write or read Malayalam properly, even though they are studying in 9th standard. "പൊലിക പൊലിക" - Digital Album on Performing arts (Theyyam)

As part of the third semester school based works of B.Ed curriculum prescribed by the University of Kerala, the teacher trainings are expected to create a digital album, based on any performing arts. I selected 'Theyyam'. Theyyam is a revered ritualistic dance form practiced in the states of Kerala and Karnataka, steeped in ancient traditions and customs dating back thousands of years. Regarded as a sacred channel to the divine, Theyyam holds immense significance for the local communities, who seek blessings and guidance through its performances. Each Theyyam represents a deity or divine being, often embodying the virtues of heroism or virtuous living. Many Theyyams are believed to be manifestations of Hindu deities like Shiva or Shakti, contributing to their religious importance. "വൈവിധ്യത്തിലെ ഏകത്വം" - Song Composition Work

As per the B.Ed curriculum prescribed by University of Kerala for Semester III, a song composition work has to be done by the teacher trainee, in connection with any of the topic handled in classroom during the training phase. During the first phase of my B.Ed teaching practice, I was posted for training at BNV V&HSS for Boys, Thiruvallam. The allotted class was IXth standard. I handled a chapter named- കേരളം: 8ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു മുതൽ 18ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു വരെ - which basically talks about the cultural, geographical, political, social, land related and economic aspects of Kerala during the mid century of 8-18th CE. This is a poem I composed on the same theme, en capsuling the essence of the chapter, and used during the end of the lesson- as a sumup of why the chapter is important. Since my lesson plans were in malayalam and I handled the malayalam medium students, the poem was also written in malayalam.
