Weekly Reflection of Teaching Practise - Week 8 (July 22- July 27 2024 )

 The final week of my teaching practice made me sum up and recollect a lot of experiences that has played a role in shaping the way i am, or the teacher i was becoming. I was showered with a lot of love, like never before, from my students. i have learned that 'keep the students away' might not always work. i learned 8th standard is a very raw age and by the time they are in the 9th class, a lot of changes occur, 8th standard is the exact , or maybe the last important milestone when you can influence the students. this teaching practice session will definitely be remembered for the clarity it gave me in setting boundaries and managing timelines.

on monday (july22), i got the opportunity to oversee and host a quiz competition for the students, under social science club. It was a general knowledge quiz.




Pie Approximation Day and Moon Day was also celebrated on the assembly on the same day by Maths and Science clubs respectively.




On Tuesday (23 July), I was given an opportunity to host and be the quiz master for the quiz competition on general knowledge , for the UP section, conducted under the banner of Social Science Club of the school.



On Wednesday (24 July), Hindustan Latex Limited and Mathrubhumi visited the school, donating daily newspaper and announcing some competitions to the students.I also took some remedial classes for the students in my class. Gifts from my students have started pouring in.



Thursday (25 July) was a quiet busy day preparing students for the social science exhibition tomorrow. (Spoiler Alert- 2 out of 3 teams I mentored was selected for the Sub District level, a personal cinfidence booster for me)



On Friday (26th July), the school social science and other subject exhibitions happened, which was an experience in itself. i was able to judge up level competition, and got amazing exposure organising everything.



On 27th of July, the last day, we met all the teachers, expressed gratitude, distributed chocolates to the children, and to all staff members. We also took photoes. A wonderful experience and 8 weeks thus came to an end at GGHSS Peroorkada.

  The phase 1 of teaching practice started on November 6 2023. Me  and 9 other of my classmates are assigned to BNV Boys HS Section, Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram. I have already collected the portions by previous month. I am expected to teach class 9 C in Malayalam medium for the subject social science. Since this was the first week I am still getting acquainted with the class, students, teachers, and official settings of a school. It's your essay very good opportunity and being a boy school, I expect a little bit of challenge in managing discipline of the class. My class has 20 boys who come from various backgrounds. It is unfortunate that most of the students doesn't know how to write or read Malayalam properly, even though they are studying in 9th standard. "പൊലിക പൊലിക" - Digital Album on Performing arts (Theyyam)

As part of the third semester school based works of B.Ed curriculum prescribed by the University of Kerala, the teacher trainings are expected to create a digital album, based on any performing arts. I selected 'Theyyam'. Theyyam is a revered ritualistic dance form practiced in the states of Kerala and Karnataka, steeped in ancient traditions and customs dating back thousands of years. Regarded as a sacred channel to the divine, Theyyam holds immense significance for the local communities, who seek blessings and guidance through its performances. Each Theyyam represents a deity or divine being, often embodying the virtues of heroism or virtuous living. Many Theyyams are believed to be manifestations of Hindu deities like Shiva or Shakti, contributing to their religious importance. "വൈവിധ്യത്തിലെ ഏകത്വം" - Song Composition Work

As per the B.Ed curriculum prescribed by University of Kerala for Semester III, a song composition work has to be done by the teacher trainee, in connection with any of the topic handled in classroom during the training phase. During the first phase of my B.Ed teaching practice, I was posted for training at BNV V&HSS for Boys, Thiruvallam. The allotted class was IXth standard. I handled a chapter named- കേരളം: 8ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു മുതൽ 18ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടു വരെ - which basically talks about the cultural, geographical, political, social, land related and economic aspects of Kerala during the mid century of 8-18th CE. This is a poem I composed on the same theme, en capsuling the essence of the chapter, and used during the end of the lesson- as a sumup of why the chapter is important. Since my lesson plans were in malayalam and I handled the malayalam medium students, the poem was also written in malayalam.
